National Mall Description
The National Mall & Memorial Parks is the heartcenter of DC's history, containing more than 80 historic buildings and 150 historic parks and sites. Highlights include the Washington Monument, Lincoln Memorial, Thomas Jefferson Memorial, WWII Memorial, Franklin Delano Roosevelt Memorial, Korean War Veterans Memorial, and Vietnam Veterans Memorial.
Kid Tips
Toddlers & Pre-K: Though they may be bored by the historic sites, an abundance of park space affords plenty of spots for them to run around outside.
Planning Notes
- Do you need a permit? No fees or reservations are required to visit the park. However, a permit may be required for planned events and larger groups. Contact NAMA for details.
- Pack a picnic. With so many parks throughout the Mall, there are plenty of spots to stop and grab a bite on the grass.
- Bring sneakers. In addition to all the walking you'll do visiting the historic sites, there are also numerous areas for jogging, biking, golf, swimming, tennis, paddleboating, ice skating, and fishing.
