National Museum of Natural History Description
Your child may ask if he can see Big Bob at this museum. Say yes if you don't suffer from arachnophobia: Big Bob is a tarantula the size of a dinner plate. You'll need (free) timed tickets for the Insect Zoo where Bob lives, so after you get your ticket, spend the rest of your visit in the Dinosaur Hall. (All those guys are loooong dead.) After that, head over to see the mysterious, 45.5-carat Hope Diamond.
Kid Tips
School-Age Kids: Go to OLogy, the museum website's kids' section, the museum website's kids' section, where they can explore various "OLogies," or how things work. Also, don't miss the Discover Stations, mobile carts positioned near exhibits that allow hands-on learning. For example, a Dinosaur Detectives station lets kids see and discuss fossils.
Planning Notes
- Catch a movie. Check the schedule of the Samuel C. Johnson Imax theatre when you arrive; "The Shark" and "Lions 3-D" shows run all day.
