Old Post Office Pavilion Description
Your family won't be disappointed with the spectacular, panoramic birds-eye view of downtown Washington, D.C. from the 270-foot clock tower observation deck of the Old Post Office Pavilion, the second-highest building in the city, located on Main Street between the U.S. Capitol Building and the White House. Stroll through a variety of local retail and souvenir shops, indulge in an international food court that has enough variety to satisfy any young palate, and enjoy live jazz and classical musicians serenading your family's visit to one of D.C.'s most popular destinations.
Kid Tips
School-Age Kids: If there's something cool on at the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, check Ticketplace in the Old Post Office Pavilion. You can even get half-price, same-day tickets.
Pre-Teens & Teens: Take a Segway tour. In the retail space in the Pavilion is Segs in the City, where you can rent a Segway or sign on for a Segway tour. You can also go on a "Bike the Sites" guided family tour of D.C.'s monuments.
Planning Notes
- Fabulous food court. Grab lunch in the Tower's food court, housed in a glass-roofed atrium.
- Traveler's note: D.C.'s highest building, the Washington Monument, is closed for renovations and repairs, so the crowds may be a bit larger than usual.
