C&O Historic Boat Ride Description
Kids on a C&O boat quickly realize this isn't merely a pleasant hour on the water. The mules pulling the boat from the canal-side towpaths are the first clue. Kids end up rapt, listening to the costumed commentators explain how children like them (the children of boat captains) once worked guiding the mules. It will make mowing the lawn or putting out the trash seem like a cinch.
Kid Tips
School-Age Kids: Have your child ask the captain if she can wear the captain's hat and ring the bell.
Pre-Teens & Teens: The rangers love the mules that pull the boats, and they especially love to tell kids about each animal's unique personality.
Planning Notes
- Get active. Before your trip, have your child find out how he can become a Junior Ranger. There are printable PDFs describing activities for either 6- to 8- or 7-to 12-year-olds.
