El Ranario, The Frog Pond Description

A well-organized series of terrariums houses 26 species of frogs native to Costa Rica. What we loved was that the guides really take the time to find the well-hidden creatures, and to explain all their oddball habits. The nighttime flashlight tour is the real highlight.

Kid Tips

Babies: Children younger than 6 are free

School-Age Kids: Kids will be the ones who really get involved in the search, helping the guides spot the elusive frogs.

Pre-Teens & Teens: Older kids will find the Ranaria tame as the frogs are enclosed in glass and it would be more fun to see them in the wild.

Planning Notes

  • Plan to come back at night. Your ticket buys you all-day access, including the chance to return at night, and make sure you do it. It's a completely different experience to see these frogs, many of which are nocturnal, venturing out at night.
