Sarapiqui River Rafting with Costa Rica Expeditions Description
Costa Rica boasts several world-class rafting rivers, but the Sarapiqui is best for families, as it is a bit tamer than the Pacuare and offers day-trip options that are safe for young kids. Numerous outfitters offer guided rafting trips, but Costa Rica Expeditions is frequently named as one of the best-run companies, with instructors certified in safety training.
Kid Tips
Babies: None of the trips will accept kids younger than 6, so this activity will have to wait until the kids are older.
School-Age Kids: Costa Rica Expeditions offers a Class I-II Sarapiqui trip that's open to kids age 6 and older, and a Class II-III trip open to kids age 8 and older.
Pre-Teens & Teens: Adventure-hungry older kids (age 12 and older) will love the wilder full-day trips on the Pacuare river, which is a wild class III-IV ride.
Planning Notes
- Choose your trip based on the age of your kids as well as time available. Both the Sarapiqui and the Pacuare can be rafted for half-day, full-day, and multiday excursions. Make your decision based on the class level of the trip, the swimming skills of your kids, and the amount of time you have available.
