Butterfly Pavilion and Insect Center Description
Kids of all ages will enjoy a visit to the Butterfly Pavilion and Insect Center, where butterflies roam freely in a tropical forest exhibit and kids can hold -- gasp! -- a live tarantula. The Center, which is located just a short drive from Denver in the town of Westminster, also has a short nature trail that's surrounded by butterfly-attracting wildflowers. The hike makes for a fun extra treat before or after your visit.

Kid Tips
Toddlers & Pre-K: Even very young children will enjoy this museum, loaded with interactive displays like a "touch tank" where they can "pet" sea creatures like sea stars or the tropical garden where butterflies fly freely.
Pre-Teens & Teens: Give older siblings a chance to show off by holding Rosie, the kid-friendly tarantula.
Planning Notes
- Food choices abound. There's a small snack bar and seating area on site, and a mall across the street offers a variety of dining options.
- Buy a smart souvenir. The gift shop continues the educational theme with a great collection of books and activities.
- Don't touch. With some exceptions (like Rosie the tarantula), remind kids not to touch any butterflies that land on or near them.

Holding the Tarantula
This place is wonderful! Ive spent a lot of time in Denver and this is a place I visit often and always recommend people go, whether they have kids or not. The butterflies are amazing from small ones, to sparkling ones the size of your hand. If you sit really still, theyll even land on you.br/br/Be sure to stick around for when they release the butterflies that just came out of their cocoons!br/br/The petting tank and critters are fun, too.
