Sixteenth Street Mall Description

While Denver's upscale Cherry Creek Mall offers a traditional shopping experience, many Denver visitors enjoy the outdoor atmosphere along the 16th Street pedestrian mall. If you or the kids tire of walking or are loaded down with shopping bags, free shuttle buses run up and down this 1.25-mile boulevard lined with restaurants and shops. National chains abound, but there are unique gems along the route, especially toward Union Station, including the iconic independent bookseller the Tattered Cover. There's even a United Artists movie theater along the route, in case you get tired of shopping and want to relax with a flick instead.

Kid Tips

Babies: Bring a stroller to stow both diaper and shopping bags and to allow baby to nap while you hunt the racks. Bonus: 16th Street Mall shuttle buses are stroller-friendly.

School-Age Kids: Niketown and ESPN Zone will burn off energy as well as tokens.

Pre-Teens & Teens: It's shopping heaven for this age group, from the Gap to the Virgin Megastore to the boutiques at Writer's Square.

Planning Notes

  • Bring your appetite. Street vendors and national chain restaurants populate the entire length of the mall. From hot dog carts to the Denver Hard Rock Café, there's sure to be something to please even the pickiest palates.
  • Make time for Writer's Square. This is a unique enclave with boutiques and local eateries at Lawrence Street.

Fun place to spend an afternoon in Denver!

What we loved:
It was free, and clean and fun!

What we didn't love:
We couldnt stay all day...

My kids are 7 and 10. They loved the free shuttle bus, which stops about every block for loading and unloading passengers. You can ride it and see all the shops and restaurants BEFORE you walk all of it and the kids get tired. Then, decide which ones you want to visit. We ate at "Noodles & Co." for lunch, and it was as great for the adults as it was for the kids. You can order anything from plain noodles to spicy Thai noodle dishes. Very tasty. Also, if youre looking for Colorado souvenirs, there are two large shops on 16th St. with enough t-shirts and keepsakes to satisy any kid with money burning a hole in his/her pocket.br/I recommend this site for a mid-morning or afternoon. Denver is lots of fun! Read More
