Denver Art Museum Description
Recently renovated with a new addition, the Denver Art Museum ambitiously seeks to engage kids at nearly every exhibit. For example, the Asian exhibit -- often notoriously boring to kids -- features a nook where kids can stomp and "pop" cartoon bubbles, and an "eye spy" animal-spotting activity. On weekends, they can participate in the free Hotspots programs, including learning how to wield a real samurai sword or attempting Navajo basket weaving. Pick up the free brochure "Free Things for Kids to Do Today" at the welcome center, then look for the museum's monkey mascot, Seymour, as a clue that an exhibit or display is kid-friendly. The museum is best known for its extensive collection of Western-themed and regional (including Native American) art, but it also has a family fun center just for kids, which allows them to really let loose.
Kid Tips
Toddlers & Pre-K: This age group will run out of steam quickly in a perpetual quiet zone like this. Start by viewing exhibitions and then introduce them to the kid-friendly areas like the Just for Fun Family Center.
School-Age Kids: Create challenges for kids (such as "spot the color orange") with token prizes from the museum gift shop
Pre-Teens & Teens: Kids who are into art, architecture, photography, design, or history will enjoy visiting the museum.
Planning Notes
- Strollers available. They can be rented at welcome centers.
- Backpacks, too. On weekends, backpacks filled with activities and games are available for visitors.

Hours: Tues.-Thu. 10 a.m.-5 p.m.; Friday 10 a.m.-10 p.m. (North Building galleries close at 5 p.m.) Saturday 10 a.m.-5 p.m.; Sunday noon-5 p.m; Monday closed Closed on Independence Day, Thanksgiving, and Christmas.
