Buffalo Bill's Museum and Grave Description
The Wild West comes alive at this museum in Golden, 30 minutes from Denver. As the name implies, the grave of the former Pony Express rider, army scout, and legendary Wild West showman Buffalo Bill Cody is located here, on Lookout Mountain where he asked to be buried. Young buckaroos can practice their roping skills at the "corral," design their own cattle brand, and try on cowboy gear. Kids with an interest in history may enjoy the permanent exhibits on Buffalo Bill's story, Native American culture, and women of the West.
Kid Tips
Pre-Teens & Teens: Kids this age, who have outgrown the allure of cowboys, might be bored.
Planning Notes
- Taste the Wild West. The Pahaska Teepee Gift Shop offers buffalo burgers and buffalo chili in this museum-turned-coffee shop.
- Keep your eyes open. At exit 250, sharp-eyed family members can spot a buffalo herd from I-70 en route from Denver.
