Denver Museum of Nature & Science Description

As the name implies, this museum is dedicated to every "-ology" you can think of, from geology to anthropology to zoology. In addition to permanent collections, the museum hosts several special exhibitions each year, usually for an additional fee. There's also an IMAX theater for an extra charge, featuring films on current exhibitions or nature and science-related topics. For yet another additional fee, check out the Gates Planetarium. School-age kids love the Egyptian mummies exhibit on the third floor. There's also a Prehistoric Journey where kids can take a self-guided tour through various prehistoric eras and learn how fossils are prepared for exhibition.

Kid Tips

School-Age Kids: This is the age where learning about science and nature comes alive; kids this age will likely get the most of this visit.

Planning Notes

  • Parking is convenient. There is a main (free) parking lot to the north of the museum and an underground lot on the west side of that lot.
  • Snack-o-saurs rejoice. The T-Rex cafe offers "hot entrees with an ethnic flair," and there's also a snack kiosk for a quick bite.
  • Strollers welcome. You can even rent one for $1 at the information desk.
  • Buy tickets online. You can get tickets for general admission and all extras (IMAX, special exhibitions, Gates Planetarium) online, saving you the hassle of whipping out your wallet at every turn.

Mummies!

Dinosaur-obsessed and fossil-obsessed kids will enjoy the prehistoric exhibit. The mummies were a little creepy for the youngest of the bunch. Read More
