Skiing and Snowboarding Description
At Whistler/Blackcomb, bunnies have a blast in a fabulous kids program, intermediates zoom on perfectly groomed cruisers, and experts challenge their knees and nerves on endless bumps and bowls. You can even indulge your fantasies on the same trails used in the 2010 Olympics. With more than 8,000 acres of skiable terrain spread over two mountains, the entire family will find plenty of snowy adventure. When it's time for a break, you'll find plenty of dining options in Whistler Village, an easy walk from the lifts — even in ski boots!
Kid Tips
Babies: Childcare is available for kids ages 18 months to 4 years old. Be sure to bring a photo of your child on the first day. Call 800-766-0449 to reserve a spot in any of three locations.
Toddlers & Pre-K: Private ski lessons and ski school starts for kids as young as 3, and run for a half day or full day. Pick up rental equipment and tickets beforehand, though, so you can all maximize your time on the slopes.
School-Age Kids: Adventure Camp rules! This five-day camp gives kids in-depth time with the same instructor and peer group all week. Kids learn a ton and have a blast at the same time. Can't commit to five days? Daily and weekend programs are also available.
Planning Notes
- Pick Your Mountain. Families with mixed skiing and boarding abilities will find plenty of fun on both mountains. But, in general, beginners will find Blackcomb to be a gentler introduction, while experts are more challenged on Whistler.
- Book Lessons Early. Ski school fills up, so reserve lessons ahead of time online or by phone. Discounts apply if you reserve more than 56 hours (two and a half days) in advance.
- Prepare for Photo Ops. Take your first chairlift ride as a family, and look for the professional photographers at the top of most lifts. Makes a great holiday card!
- Take a Tip. Be on the lookout for free ski tip areas scattered around both mountains (especially around the lodges). Instructors will watch you ski down a small section of slope and give you free tips on form and technique.
