Maplewood Farm Description
Animal-loving kids will adore getting up close and personal with goats, rabbits, pot-bellied pigs, and many other farm animals on this five-acre working farm. Pony rides, a milking demonstration, and pig feeding are sure-fire hits, and farm babies are often in abundance. The animals are curious and friendly, and petting is encouraged. One 3-year-old girl was captivated by a baby goat that followed her everywhere. The surrounding creeks and wilderness make for a lovely trip out of the city.
Kid Tips
Babies: Leave the stroller behind and use a baby carrier instead.
Pre-Teens & Teens: Young adults will likely be a bit bored here, but they may enjoy the glimpse into the workings of an actual farm.
Planning Notes
- Go on a weekday. Parking is free but fills up quickly on weekends, when it can be crowded.
- Bring a picnic. Benches and picnic tables are available for snack or lunch time.
- Check the Web site for special events. The farm hosts several seasonal fairs.
