Granville Island Description
The magic of Granville Island begins from the moment you step off the ferry, with the aromas of international foods swirling in the hustle and bustle of the Public Market. Kids will adore the nearby Kids Market, with play areas and shops filled with toys, books, records, clothes, and kid-friendly food. The water park is great fun on hot summer days. A stroll through the main shopping district offers unique shops, art galleries, and restaurants, and the people-watching is a sport in itself.

Kid Tips
Babies: Cobblestones can be a little tricky, though not impossible, for strollers. At the Kids Market, the Beanstalk Bistro is centrally located so parents with babies can have a seat and a snack while older kids play in the Adventure Zone or arcade.
Toddlers & Pre-K: Young children will enjoy the Kid Market's Toddler Zone, a small play area for kids younger than 3. Shop and play indoors or on the patio and play area outside beside the pond.
School-Age Kids: Kids ages 3 and older will love the Adventure Zone, an indoor playground with four levels of climbing structures and nets, slides, tunnels, and a ball pit. On a sunny day, splash in the water park that's next door.
Pre-Teens & Teens: The Public Market is food paradise, with offerings from around the world. Even though the Kids Market is geared for younger children, it includes a large arcade for hours of coin-operated fun.
Planning Notes
- Take the ferry. Granville Island isn't really an island, so you can get there by car, bus, bicycle, or ferry. But arriving by Aquabus or the False Creek ferry makes the trip extra fun.
- Avoid weekends. The crowds can be overwhelming on weekends, especially if special events are planned. Weekdays are pleasantly busy without being overcrowded.
- On hot, sunny days, bring dry clothes for kids. The water park is irresistible.
- Rainy days are still fun. The Public Market and the Kids Market are fully enclosed and offer plenty of entertainment on a rainy day.
