Capilano Suspension Bridge Description

Put on your "Indiana Jones" hat and hike across the 450-foot long Capilano Suspension Bridge, swaying over a cedar-scented rainforest and the rushing Capilano River 230 feet below. Once across, follow the Cliff Hanger Walk around the gorge and under the bridge to Treetops Adventure, where seven suspension bridges give you a squirrel's-eye view of the trees and take you up to 100 feet above the forest floor. It's a fabulous adventure without danger, a unique experience that's thrilling for kids and grownups alike.

Kid Tips

Babies: No strollers are allowed, so bring a baby carrier that keeps the baby no higher than your waist, where the bridge guardrails are.

Toddlers & Pre-K: Once across the suspension bridge, ask about the Kids' Rainforest Explorer program, which guides kids along the cliff boardwalk via a booklet and stickers. On the way back kids can redeem the completed booklet for a small prize.

School-Age Kids: Don't miss the Story Centre, where kids pose for pictures with costumed guides, and the First Nations Cultural Centre, with totem poles and weaving and beadwork demonstrations.

Pre-Teens & Teens: Nature lovers, photo hounds, and thrill seekers will all be delighted.

Planning Notes

  • Don't let a little rain stop you. It's a rainforest after all! Free waterproof ponchos are available at Guest Services.
  • Go in the morning. The crowds haven't arrived, lunch options are plentiful and surprisingly good, and the timing works well for an afternoon trip to nearby Grouse Mountain.
  • Wear stable walking shoes. Most of the walking trails are smooth boardwalks or gravel, but there are a few sets of stairs and some uneven ground here and there.
  • Dress kids in bright colors. The forest is shadowy; bright colors make it easier to spot kids as they scamper ahead.
