Grouse Mountain Description

The famous Skyride is your gateway to adventure, a spectacular one-mile journey by aerial tramway to the top of Grouse Mountain (bring a camera to capture breathtaking views). At the top, take the self-guided Eco Walk, where kids will marvel at the 16-foot chainsaw sculptures and grizzly bears in their protected habitat. Don't miss the lumberjack show and a demonstration of free-flying birds of prey. Older family members will find heart-pounding thrills on the Mountain Zipline, a three-line adventure circuit with a unique view of old-growth forests.

Kid Tips

Babies: This fresh-air outing is perfect for snoozing babies. The walking is easy, but it's on dirt trails so leave the stroller behind and use a baby carrier.

Toddlers & Pre-K: It's all about animals! Challenge your kids to spot grey wolves from the aerial tramway; find the grizzly bears in their 5-acre habitat; and spy free-flying eagles, owls, falcons, and hawks.

School-Age Kids: Kids will never forget the lumberjack feats in the 45-minute show of log rolling, tree climbing, two-man peg and raker saws, axe throwing, and an exciting springboard chop.

Pre-Teens & Teens: Head straight for the Mountain Zipline. At $70 Canadian it's pricey, but where else can you zip over a rainforest at speeds up to 30 miles per hour?

Planning Notes

  • Food and restrooms available. Once at the top of the mountain, dining options are plentiful — everything from the elegant Observatory to the more casual self-serve cafeteria — and restrooms are easy to find.
  • Take a zip. Zipline riders must weigh between 60 and 275 pounds, and wear close-toed shoes.
  • Take your time. Only 15 minutes from downtown Vancouver, it's easy to enjoy a leisurely breakfast before heading out for your mountain adventure.
