Atelier Pare Ecomusee Description

"Like Gepetto?" the 7-year old asks as I explain what a wood carver is. Exactly like that. And while the studio where Alphonse Pare worked for most of his life has no wooden boys who think they're alive, there are plenty of lifelike carvings that capture the history and folklore of the region. You'll marvel at the artistic renderings that can be found in the Vatican (and 23 churches across the province) and the kids will love the storytelling behind each and every legend.

Kid Tips

Babies: You're probably better off waiting it out outside in the back garden or using a carrier inside the museum. The small space could be tricky with a stroller.

Toddlers & Pre-K: Watch little hands in the on-site gift shop where there are plenty of delicate treasures tempting them to touch.

School-Age Kids: Let them wander around the back where they can make a wish in the will-o'-the-wisps.

Pre-Teens & Teens: Outside of the folk stories there won't be much to hold their attention here.

Planning Notes

  • Make it a day. You'll need a car to get out to this area so make it a day. The area around the Atelier is ripe with architechtural treasures. Take your time driving out and plan to stop in at popular sites like the Sainte Anne de Beaupre Basillica and the Bee museum which are on route.
  • Come for story time. Call ahead to see when the next group story time is scheduled. If there isn't a live reading happening when you visit, tune into the animated version of one on the TV in the cozy room.
