Parc de la Chute Montmorency Description
"We're moving!!" shrieks a 4 year old as the Gondola begins to make its way up the side of the torrential waterfall. The speed is slow but the height is staggering. More than 83 meters above the ground the falls are beautiful. Kids love the feeling of walking across the top on a wooden suspension bridge 100 meters over the falls or watching the fireworks reflected in their mist during festival time. Gardens offer space for kids to burn off steam and the Manoir Montmercy (once the vacation home of the Duke of Kent) has a restaurant and museum where little fingers are welcome. There is also ice climbing and snowshoeing
Kid Tips
Babies: Strollers fit easily in the gondola and elevators inside Manoir Montmercy makes accessing the small museum easy.
Toddlers & Pre-K: You can walk up to the top of the falls but it's a hike (460 steps) and younger legs may not be able to handle it. If the gondola is outside your price range ask the information desk about the driving route behind the falls.
Pre-Teens & Teens: They'll likely lose interest quickly. Keep the visit short and they'll survive.
Planning Notes
- Winter Wonderland. Plan to join locals as they take to the "Sugar Loaf" — ice mounds at the base of the falls (they freeze!) — with crazy carpets, sleds or just a slippery ski jacket and an adventurous spirit.
- You'll need some cash. There is no entrance fee but parking is $9.25 per car and the gondola to the top has a fee, too.(Opt for a family pass for $31.50 which covers return trips for two adults and two children and parking for one car.)
- Come for brunch. There are plenty of places to picnic on the grounds for free, but a trip up to the Manoir for Sunday Brunch ($23 for adults, $12.50 for kids 7 and older, and kids younger than 6 eat free) is a memorable way to munch.
