Aquarium du Quebec Description
"Look at me! I'm a frog," yells the 4-year-old as he hops across lily pads set in about a foot of water and plays peek-a-boo through tall grassses. "Can we do that again?" You can but there are plenty of othe highlights in this playful setting to delight. Toddlers love the aquarium themed splash park and school-agers will be impressed with the monkey-bar like apparatus that's just their size. You'll appreciate the benches: Sit, park a stroller and watch it all unfold even before you see a single fish.
Kid Tips
Babies: Go ahead and let them touch the glass tunnel that takes you through the largest of the aquariums tanks (350,000 liters) and surrounds you in a watery bubble.
Toddlers & Pre-K: Little ones will enjoy the wildly different exotic fish — some as big as small dogs. Easy to match pictures mean they can play spot the fish while you read the details about their role in the enironment
School-Age Kids: There are plenty of fish to spot throughout the aquarium (10,000 representing 300 species from the boreal to the arctic regions to be exact) but little ones will especially like the touch tanks on the third floor where starfish, sea urchins and sponges are among the critters available for touching.
Planning Notes
- Come for lunch. There's a small snack stand with sandwiches, salads and snacks inside (the bigger restaurant is under renovation) but you're welcome to bring along a snack or two and sit at one of the dozen or so picnic tables with umbrellas set up around the park.
- Watch the world go by. The playground at the back of the park offers a great view of traffic on the Quebec and Pierre La Pointe bridges (through a high and secure mesh fence). Younger ones like watching the cars and trains go by. Classical music piped through outdoor speakers is a nice touch.
- Check the show schedule ahead of your visit.: Polar bears, walruses and seals all put on a show at various times of the day and during feeding time. Check the schedule to plan to visit at the right time.
