Insectarium de Montréal/Montreal Insectarium Description
Rhinoceros beetles the size of your hand, skinny-as-a-twig stick bugs, Mexican yellow knee spiders (popular as pets), tarantulas—a world of crawly, sticky, furry creatures awaits your family at the Insectarium, which is on a mission to educate the public about entomology and change our concept of "bugs." Among the largest insectariums in the world, it has over 3,000 live and desiccated creatures on display. Scorpion lollipops? Spicy meal worms? If you miss the monthly insect tastings, you can find these delicacies at the gift shop.
Kid Tips
Toddlers & Pre-K: Many displays are at toddler eye level, making this a nice place for bug boys and girls.
School-Age Kids: Don't miss the daily shows, which include talks about insect sounds, insect architecture, and the Atta ants' gardening tactics.
Planning Notes
- Go early. This popular museum gets crowded in the summer. If you are touring the gardens as well, stop here first.
- Ample parking. It costs $10. Alternately, take the Metro to Viau or Pie IX and ride the free shuttle.
- Combine with a visit to the Olympic Park or Biodôme. Everything's within walking distance or a shuttle ride away.
