Aquarium of the Bay
Good-for-Kids Rating
Aquarium of the Bay Description
It's hard not to be distracted by the sprawling, brawling, and barking sea lions on the west side of Pier 39, but more sealife awaits at the nearby revamped Aquarium of the Bay. Inside you can walk through clear plastic tubes lying underneath the Bay. Few kids can remain blas‚ when face to face with a shark.
Kid Tips
Toddlers & Pre-K: Kids can get their hands wet in the "touch pools," where they'll learn what a live bat ray feels like, along with leopard sharks and other tide pool animals.
School-Age Kids: Budding scientists will enjoy stopping by the Aquarium's Marine Mammal Center's kiosk where staff answer questions about sea lion behavior.
