San Diego Zoo Safari Park (formerly Wild Animal Park) Description

The Safari Park (formerly the Wild Animal Park) plays counterpart to the world-famous San Diego Zoo. View African and Asian animals in large habitats that include an enormous valley where animals like elephants, giraffes, and gazelles roam free. The best way to see them is by taking one of the guided train tours that ride through numerous roaming areas.

Kid Tips

Babies: Strollers are available for rent.

Planning Notes

  • Be ready to walk. The Animal Park is big (very, very big). Walking around can be tiring even for adults. Wear comfortable shoes and dress lightly during the warm months, as it gets hot in this part of town.
  • Take your time. The park is in the mountains east of San Diego. Allow most of your day for the visit, as the drive time can be about an hour from the heart of the city.
