Monterey Bay Kayaking Description
Kayaking is adventurous enough to impress thrill-seeking teens, but easy and safe enough that school-age kids can manage it, especially with a partner. And sshhh, don't tell them, but kids learn a lot without realizing they're doing something educational. This was absolutely a highlight of our trip — we'd never been in kayaks before and yet felt like we'd discovered a new sport by the end. The crew members are helpful and solicitious, but just rough and ready enough that outdoor-oriented teens feel inspired and motivated. We had to stop ourselves from buying kayaks at the end of the trip, and are still keeping an eye on the want-ads! And even if you also plan to take a whale watching cruise, keep in mind that there's no way to get closer to otters and other more timid marine life than on in a kayak (Because kayaks and quiet and low to the water, they don't frighten animals and birds away the way motor boats do.)
Kid Tips
School-Age Kids: The two-hour Family Adventure Tour is recommended

Planning Notes
- A second location.Moss Landing at 2390 Highway One is better suited to otter and bird spotting; they love the quiet waters of Elkhorn Slough..
