Monterey County Youth Museum (MY Museum) Description
The day we stopped by, toddlers were climbing, sliding and rolling all over "My Day at the Beach," a sort of indoor playground featuring wooden boats and sand blocks, while older kids were learning to tee off at a golf exhibit that included a real golf cart. (That's not the only vehicle available for climbing; there's also a tractor at the Farm exhibit.) The highlight for my girls was the ImagiTree, a sort of gigantic treehouse with animal exhibits and a puppet theater inside the tree trunk; I couldn't tear them away from the Ranger Rick-style puppet show they devised.
Kid Tips
School-Age Kids: Your kids might want to spend the whole day here, though parents might get impatient to get back to Cannery Row and the waterfront outside. Plan to allow a couple of hours if your kids like crafts, as there's always something interesting set up to make.
Pre-Teens & Teens: Teens will probably scoff at this museum, which is really set up for the 12 and younger set.
Planning Notes
- New Exhibit. Exhibits change all the time depending on the season, but always feature craft projects that involve reusing and recycling found materials — a great introduction to environmental awareness.
