Museum of the American West Description
Does your kid have a thing for cowboys? Then this should be a definite stop on your itinerary. Since the museum was founded by former Western star Gene Autry, there's a lot of movie memorabilia as well as art depicting scenes from the Wild West, and artifacts like pistols and a stagecoach. The Family Discovery Gallery lets kids and grownups alike see what life was like for a Chinese-American family living in that time through a (hands-on) replica of a home, antique store and restaurant.
Kid Tips
Toddlers & Pre-K: There isn't much here for little ones.
School-Age Kids: This is a great learning opportunity for kids this age.
Pre-Teens & Teens: The Western theme may even interest teens.
Planning Notes
- This is a hot spot for field trips. You may find that the museum is calmer in the afternoons.
- There's a cafe on site. The museum is located in a huge park with plenty of picnic spots, so dining alfresco might be a good idea, too.
