The Great American Melodrama & Vaudeville Description
Designed to imitate and old-fashioned vaudeville theater with sawdust on the floor and a honky-tonk piano tinkling away, the Great American Melodrama is a riotous way to introduce kids to the joys of slapstick comedy. Warning: They'll be practicing their pratt falls for the rest of the vacation. A different play runs each month, almost always a musical or melodrama, and is preceded by a vaudeville revue with songs, dances and plenty of comedy schtick.
Kid Tips
Babies: Probably not the best for babies, since the slaps and other sound effects might scare them into a howling fit and force you to spend the evening in the lobby.
Toddlers & Pre-K: This isn't exactly your sophisticated theater experience, and depending on your little one's attention span, this might make an excellent first play.
Pre-Teens & Teens: While you might get some eye-rolling when you first suggest this activity, by halfway through teens will be rolling on the floor along with everyone else. The plays contain enough off-color humor and cultural references that there's something to make even the most blasé teen laugh out loud.
Planning Notes
- There is food available. The in-house pub features basic move house fare, such at hot dogs, baked potatoes, nachos, and popcorn if you need a quick pre-show dinner in a pinch.
