Bright Angel Trail Description
None of the routes down into the canyon is easy -- what goes down must come back up! -- but the Bright Angel Trail is the most clearly marked and is equipped with water, some shade, and restrooms at the end of the 1.5-mile hike. Still, be sure and bring plenty of water of your own. On a sunny day, you'll need a hat and plenty of sunscreen.

Kid Tips
Toddlers & Pre-K: This is not an easy hike, so unless you can carry your child on your back, you may want to walk only the first quarter- or half-mile of the trail.
Planning Notes
- Allow ample time. Hiking guides say for every hour you hike down into the canyon you should allow two hours to come back up.
- Bring binoculars. Keep an eye out for the California Condor.

Challenging hike

What we loved:
Great views, river at the bottom
What we didn't love:
Rough condition of trail
This trail is around 8 miles until you reach the river. The views along the way are nice but the trail itself is rocky and steep. Bring lots of water! Read More
