Anchorage Market & Festival Description
Every summer weekend, more than 300 vendors pitch tents and tables in the heart of downtown Anchorage. It's a perfect place to shop for last-minute souvenirs, chat with the locals, and admire photographs and handcrafted art from the Alaskan wilderness. Tap your toes to live music as you browse through seven acres of toys, T-shirts, jewelry, and fine art. Let the kids dance in front of the music tent while you nosh on giant pretzels, reindeer sausage, and gyros. It's a festival atmosphere that's fun for all ages.
Kid Tips
Babies: The market is held in a giant, paved parking lot, so a stroller is fine. But it does get crowded, so you may find it easier to navigate if you hold the baby in a snugli.
Toddlers & Pre-K: Dress kids in bright colors, or tie colored balloons to their wrists to make it easier to spot kids in the crowd.
School-Age Kids: his is an easy place to give kids $10 and let them spend it however they like.
Pre-Teens & Teens: Agree on a meeting time and place and set them free! There's plenty for them to see, buy and enjoy on their own.
Planning Notes
- Bring cash. Many vendors accept credit cards, but not everyone does, and cash is always welcome.
- Eat lunch here if you don't mind standing up. If you prefer a more restful lunch break, there are plenty of choices in easy walking distance.
