Kenai Fjords National Park Cruise Description
The eye-popping beauty of the Kenai fjords is an experience your family will never forget. Kids will see tons of wildlife like orca whales, puffins, steller sea lions, harbor seals, and sea otters. And you won't just see glaciers, you'll hear them snapping and cracking, with huge chunks of glacial ice dropping into the water below. Cruise boats offer warm, dry indoor seating with large picture windows, and chillier, windier, outdoor viewing for the more adventurous. Lunch is served, and hot chocolate is always available!
Kid Tips
Toddlers & Pre-K: Lunch is served, but there's only one option, so you might want to bring food for picky eaters. Young kids will also be happier if you bring books and small toys, especially if you're taking one of the longer cruises.
School-Age Kids: Kids who get antsy between wildlife sightings might appreciate having a book or game handy.
Planning Notes
- Wear layers and rain gear. Even if the weather seems warm and calm, it can get chilly on the water, and the boats can generate a good bit of sea spray.
- Bring a camera. Binoculars can also be handy if you have them.
- Bring Dramamine. Even if the water looks calm from shore, the trip out into the fjords can be bumpy, especially if the weather is unsettled. The boats do supply "sick sacks," but not motion sickness pills.
- Vegetarian options are available on request. Lunch usually includes a chicken caesar wrap. Vegetarian options are available, but must be requested beforehand.
