Alaska SeaLife Center Description
Part aquarium, part wildlife rescue center, the Alaska SeaLife Center gives kids a peek inside the world of Alaska's marine animals. They can see frolicking puffins, sea lions, harbor seals and otters, among many other species. But they'll also learn about injured animals who have come to the Center for treatment and rehabilitation, and the scientists who study them. Volunteers and tour guides are happy to answer the most detailed questions, and the gift shop offers everything from T-shirts and crazy hats to fine art.
Kid Tips
Toddlers & Pre-K: Free strollers are available for use in the Center.
Pre-Teens & Teens: The Behind-the-Scenes tour is fascinating for older kids with an interest in marine science (it may not engage younger kids though).
Planning Notes
- Eat elsewhere. The Sea Life Center includes a small café, but it closes early and the menu is limited. Several restaurants are in easy walking distance.
- Special tours are available. For an added fee, your family can take a behind-the-scenes tour, encounter the animals first-hand, even dissect a squid. Reservations are required; check the Web site for details.
