Canyon Village Campground Description
Several of Yellowstone's campgrounds are run by a private concession service, Xanterra Parks & Resorts, and Canyon is one of them. The upside to this is that you can make reservations months in advance. Canyon is located in the heart of the park near the photogenic Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone. There are many family-friendly amenities -- including pay showers and coin-operated laundry facilities -- on-site, with a gas station, restaurant and shops in nearby Canyon Village. Check for family-friendly evening programs and talks run by park rangers at the Canyon Campground Amphitheatre, usually around 9 p.m.
Planning Notes
- Reservations by phone only. Call Xanterra Parks & Resorts to reserve your campsite well in advance of your trip.
- Schmooze for a site. Ask about the best sites away from noisy RVs or roads. If the person at the reservation line can't suggest a good one, try getting in touch with a ranger at the Canyon Visitor Center by calling the Visitor Information Line (307) 344-7381.
- Know your gear. Each site is allowed only so much space, so you must know the dimensions of all tents you'll be using on your site when you call for a reservation.
- Bear country rules apply. When camping in bear country, strict rules regarding storage and preparation of food apply. Be sure to follow these rules to the letter for your family's safety and that of those around you.

Really great campground. I;m not big on bringing toddlers into Yellowstone due to the wild animals, but for school age kids and teens its fantastic.br/br/We loved the central location but did not like the busy nature of the campground. We could get everywhere very fast though .Pretty spot too.
