Island Inn Description

This rustic, affordable inn next to the Madeline Island Museum is less than a block from the ferry (turn left as you get off the ferry and it's on your right). Picnic tables outside and a wide lawn make this cozy, birch-bark furnitured inn an agreeable place to stay with kids.

Planning Notes

    • Ask for a pool pass. Free passes to the recreation center's Olympic-sized pool (located just across the street) are available.
    • Ask about specials. One current special offer provides for a free fifth night if you stay for four.
    • Bring your laptop. Unlike many other lodgings in town, the Inn offers free wireless Internet access.
    • Don't bring the pooch. Pets aren't allowed.

What we loved:
Location to the town of La Pointe

What we didn't love:
Cleanliness/Amenities

We had a great time on Madeline Island however our hotel, Island Inn, left us disappointed in the amount of money we spent to stay on the island. The room was not very clean. There was no tissue or shampoo/conditioner. Just a roll of toilet paper and two very small bars of soap. When we got to the room, there were pieces of string and a large stain on the floor from previous occupants. The bathroom was not clean. There were toothpaste marks on the mirror and I can only guess what had been running down the wall next to the toilet. We stayed at the hotel for three nights and had to request that the garbage be taken out. A coffee refill was left only once and I need my coffee. There was no way to control the AC or heat. The first day we arrived there was a ping pong table outside with a basket of paddles and balls and we thoroughly enjoyed playing open-air ping pong. Unfortunately, it was all downhill from there.br/br/On a side note, Madeline Island is beautiful. There is swimming kayaking, canoeing, hiking, galleries, good restaurants and interesting museums. I hope to be able to go back to this Northwoods island again someday. Our kids 7 & 10 had a great time--and so did we!! Read More
