Castaway Bay Description
From the Calypso music to the life-sized replica pirate ship and Animatronic parrots in the lobby, you won't have a hard time imagining you're in the Caribbean at this 237-room resort. The upscale hotel has nice amenities for adults, but there's no question about the main attraction: Kids make fast friends and ignore shriveled fingers at the huge indoor waterpark that boasts a wide range of options and thrills for kids of all ages.
Planning Notes
- Early risers. Those who stay at Castaway Bay are admitted to Cedar Point, the second-oldest theme park in the country and home to the most rides (75) and roller coasters (17) of any theme park on earth, one hour ahead of non-guests. Another perk of getting up early -- members of the Peanuts gang often appear as early as 8 a.m.; early birds get the best hug-time.
- Plan your meals. While TGI Friday's is conveniently located next door, picking the wrong time for a meal there (near closing time for Cedar Point, for example) can result in a long wait (up to two hours on some nights) and cranky kids. Opt instead for Castaway's own signature buffet at Mango Mike's; afterward, plan to let the kids burn off their hungry energy in the restaurant's children's play room, where staff members watch the kids while you unwind at the bar.
- Just one bill. Both parking and lobby access to the Internet (bring your laptop) are free.
- Old-fashioned fun. Ask to borrow one of the many board games kept behind the front desk.
