Surf Club Description
Parents and kids agree on what they like about Surf Club: location, location, location. First, Surf Club is on the beach -- and provides towels and chairs. That's a big advantage since many of the "public" beaches require a permit, charge a fee, or have limited parking. Second, it's just three blocks from the main drag of Montauk Village. Third, it has two-bedroom apartments, so the kids can be "located" in their own room. Each apartment receives daily maid service and has a kitchen, cable TV, DVD player, and patio. There's also a pool and central lawn.
Kid Tips
Babies: Cribs ($10/day) and high chairs (free) are available.
Planning Notes
- Short stay? Visit in May, June, or September. Like many hotels in the Hamptons, there is a minimum night-stay requirement (at Surf Club, it's one week) during high season, from the end of June to the beginning of September. Shorter stays are allowed but only if rooms are available, and they won't commit to that until about a month before you want to come.
- Visiting in July or August? Stay a week. Your accommodation -- and hotel -- choices are far greater if you stay for a week and book early.
- To cook or not to cook. Each apartment has a well-equipped kitchen, but Montauk has a lot of dining options -- including Duryea's, Mr. John's Pancake House, and Pizza Village -- if you don't want to use it. If you do, don't miss Gosman's Fish Market, a gourmet spot where you can buy fresh seafood salads, chowders, pasta, and local produce. Kids will go crazy for the open pools of live lobsters, some weighing up to 14 pounds!
