Red Lion Inn Description
Stay here for the lovely rooms and the vintage feel. The old stagecoach stop breathes history, from the lovely tea parlor to the old cage elevator (kids can actually ride it—just ask) to the grandfather clock that chimes on the hour. The place was rebuilt in 1896 after a fire, but the original charm remains. Kids will have a field day exploring the hotel and grounds.
Planning Notes
- Getting to know you. Kids can enjoy the place scavenger-hunt style if they'd like (ask about it at the desk). There's also a self-guided history tour.
- Splashdown. Thanks to a heated pool deck, the outdoor pool and hot tub operate year round.
- Join up. The code name for connecting rooms (those with a door between them) is "room shares."
- Get connected. Believe it or not, the vintage gem offers free wifi throughout.
- One of a kind. For an unprecedented family experience, consider the hotel's Meadowlark property. The freestanding cottage in the woods once belonged to artist Daniel Chester French (sculptor of the Lincoln Memorial). It's modernly equipped, but tranquil to its core. Rates start at a little over $300/night.
