Finca Rosa Blanca Coffee Plantation and Inn Description
"This is a princess bed!" was the immediate response when we saw the crochet-draped four-poster in one of the rooms at Finca Rosa Blanca, and the fairy tale references continued throughout our tour of the 13 quirkily artistic rooms. The owners, Teri and Glenn Jampol, landscaped as if with readers of "The Secret Garden" in mind; there are hidden meadows, flower-encrusted arbors, and a pool with a shimmering wall of water splashing into it. The seven acre preserve includes a sustainable coffee farm, and the dramatic silhouette of the Poas volcano looms over all. I thought we'd stay one night and get out of San Jose, but the Jampols offer so many activities you could make Finca Rosa Blanca an anchor for your visit to the central highlands of Costa Rica. But nothing tops the worm composter for making recycling come to life for kids.
Planning Notes
- Money matters.Although it's near San Jose, this friendly "farmstay" type inn is worth at least two nights. And if you book at least 30 days in advance, they often have two-for-one specials, or three-night specials that include a complimentary coffee tour. (A must-do for anyone dying to know why Costa Rican coffee is so much better than any other kind!) During the summer, which is Costa Rica's rainy season, Finca Rosa Blanca is also offering a family discount package in which kids stay for free.
