Cerro Chato Eco Lodge Description
What did my kids like best about Cerro Chato? It was a tie between the comfy hammocks spread liberally throughout the grounds, and the fact that the simple but roomy cabins are located far enough apart that they didn't feel self-conscious about getting goofy. "We can be as noisy as we want, here!" they yelled, carooming about the grounds, and indeed the many other families we met at Cerro Chato seemed to feel the same way (one family with three boys in particular!) Located about 20 minutes outside of La Fortuna, Cerro Chato has an unsurpassed view of the Arenal Volcano — when it's not hidden behind it's perpetual cloud cover — and is just a short hike or bike ride to the famous La Fortuna waterfall further up the hill. (Bring bathing suits; the waterfall plunges 70 feet into a rock-lined pool.).
Planning Notes
- Adventures await. The friendly and helpful owners will book Arenal night hikes to see the sky lit up with spewing lava, visits to Tabacon and Baldi hot springs, horseback rides, zipline adventures, and anything else you wish to do in the activity rich La Fortuna area. Their prices are at least as reasonable as those offered by the many activity shops in town, and the guides they recommend are locally known as the best.
