Hotel Punta Islita Description

It's hard to avoid cliches when describing Hotel Punta Islita, which is one of Costa Rica's top luxury eco-lodges for good reason. Perfectly situated in it's own private cove, the resort has two pools, a small golf course, and a sandy beach bookended by dramatic rock formations that make for great early morning climbs at low tide. Understanding parents must have designed the lower pool, which has a swim-up bar to entertain mom and dad while the kids run back and forth between the pool, a big shady lawn, and the beach, which also features a surf school. The whole family will fight for a turn in the hammocks positioned outside each room, from which vantage point you can hear howler monkeys whooping it up as they feast in the mango groves just below.

Planning Notes

  • Money matters. The packages and seasonal value deals at Hotel Punta Islita can be great money-savers for families. During the off season, the hotel offers free local flights on Sansa Air, free SUVs to explore the area, and packages that include nature tours, ziplines, spa treatments, and more.
  • Around town. Make sure you ask for a sustainability tour of the local village, where adorable kids study in a school built by the resort, and a craft guild makes the beautiful ceramics, weavings, paintings, and furniture that decorate the hotel and are available for sale.
