Monterey Plaza Hotel and Spa Description

Within five minutes of setting down our suitcases, my 13-year-old was serenading us with a concerto on the baby grand piano in our suite. Such above-and-beyond amenities are one reason to choose the Monterey Plaza Hotel and Spa; another is the incredible location smack on the water overlooking both Monterey Bay and Cannery Row. Rooms are both comfortable and elegant, there are formal and informal restaurants without going outside, and the lobby, which was gorgeously festooned with Victorian-themed Christmas decorations when we were there, offers a relaxing place to hang out and watch the waves, accompanied by a roaring fire. For the budget-conscious, there's a café just across the plaza where you can get coffee and muffins for a quick start to the day.

Planning Notes

The rooftop spa is one of the highlights of this gorgeous hotel, but kids under 18 are not allowed to use the spa. Don't miss out, though; bring a favorite movie and let the kids have some alone time while you enjoy the jacuzzi, sauna, complimentary herb tea and snacks, all with an incredible view and outdoor fireplace. Sometimes exceptions are made mid-week if you book a treatment, so if you have teens, treat them to a manicure or massage, promise silence and well-mannered behavior, and ask if they can enjoy the jacuzzi too.
