If you're expecting four-star service and swanky amenities, don't eat at Helen's. If you've been on your feet touring the park all day and want a delicious hamburger (or buffalo or elk burger) and a thick shake, then you've come to the right place. Helen's has been a Yellowstone landmark since it first opened in 1960, and you might even find the owner behind the walk-up window taking your order and flipping burgers.
Planning Notes
- Prepare to wait. Helen's can get crowded and their service is unapologetically cranky and slow.
- It's not for the fussy. This is authentic road food, eaten by the side of the road, so if combining "rustic" and "dining" scares you, skip this one, but the adventurous will be amply rewarded.
