Crab Claw Restaurant Description
Whack! Diners can work for their meal here, pounding their heaping pile of steamed and seasoned Maryland blue crabs and "picking" their way to the sweet crab meat. It's a Maryland tradition, and one the whole family can get in on -- the small crab legs can be cracked with even a kindergartener's strength. Sitting dockside in St. Michael's at small picnic tables while watching the boats go by makes for an unforgettable afternoon.
Planning Notes
- Crabs and more. Although the blue crabs are clearly the main attraction, the restaurant features a full menu of seafood (with a raw bar and steamed items); steak; chicken (including the fried chicken that's served "Eastern Shore style," with a breast, leg, and thigh); and sandwiches.
- Kid-sized seafood portions. The kids' menu features fried clam and shrimp in addition to standard fare like hot dogs and chicken nuggets. The clam chowder soup is also a hit with young diners.
- Sail in. Boaters (motor boats, too) can tie up right next to the outdoor patio.
- Reservations recommended. The restaurant is a busy place during the summer, particularly on weekends during lunch. Call ahead for reservations.
- More in the area. The restaurant is between the Patriot cruise line ticket booth and the entrance to the Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum.
