American Girl Store & Cafe Description
Your little girl will be very happy to have packed her American Girl doll when she gets a glimpse of the store and café, a hugely popular spot on Fifth Avenue. It's a no-holds-barred doll extravaganza -- your daughter will shop, stop at the salon to get her doll's hair styled, and chat with other girls about their dolls ... and forget that you're there at all (until it's time to pay, of course). Lunch or tea in the café is an absolute must-do.
Kid Tips
Toddlers & Pre-K: You may think a trip here is solely for school-age daughters, but there's something for the littler ladies, too: Check out the Bitty Baby and Bitty Twins line.
Planning Notes
- Reservations are mandatory. It is crucial to make reservations at the café well in advance; the last thing you want is a disappointed daughter.

Fun at the AG Cafe, but not so "wow" as we expected
By AnitaWSmith February 09, 2008 | Central Virginia
What we loved:
It was beautiful, and my daughter had a great time.
What we didn't love:
There was no need to check-in at 9:15 - they didnt even open until 9:30.
We visited the AG Cafe in Dec. 07 for brunch and then to have my daughters dolls hair done in the salon. The cafe is snazzy, as youd expect, all done up in pink, white and black. They even offer you a doll if you werent able to bring one along. Each doll gets her own seat which attaches to the table top, for a cozy dining experience. I ordered the eggs benedict, which came with potatoes and something else. Well. the potatoes were as cold as if Id left them out on the counter all morning, and the eggs benedict wasnt much warmer. This bothered me because wed traveled from Virginia to visit the place, and the meal was $20 per person. I informed my server we were one of only 4 tables that were filled at 9:30 a.m. and he actually seemed inconvenienced by my food being cold. All he did was take it back in the kitchen and put a serving dome over it and brought it back to me! Needless to say, I didnt make further issue of it, for fear of something really icky happening to my expensive breakfast. Just be sure you ask about the food coming out hot, or just order something that is normally cold. I knew I should have ordered the fruit plate! The shopping and the salon were absolutely wonderful, and completely made up for the breakfast incident. The ladies working in the salon were very friendly and catered to my daughters every suggestion about her dolls hair. Id go again, but Id be more cautious about what I order. Read More
