Unlike many Puerta Vallarta restaurants, El Arráyan is all about introducing diners to an authentically Mexican experience; the kinds of dishes you'd be served if you visited a Mexican family in their home. And homey is the perfect word for the tile-floored dining room, awash in bright colors and folkloric décor. My daughter, who loves art, wandered the room looking at all the paintings, weavings, ceramics and baskets while we waited for our food. The menu is equally fun to explore; each dish is carefully explained in terms of the local ingredients used, so by the time you're read through it you've learned the names of all sorts of new fruits, vegetables, spices and sauces. No Tex-Mex enchiladas here, but less adventurous kids will find plenty of simple fare that should work fine.
Planning Notes
- Picky eater alert. El Arrayán doesn't have a kids' menu per se, so if your kids are in a "chicken-fingers-only stage, I wouldn't recommend it until they're a little older.
