Jordan Pond House Restaurant Description

Get a taste of nostalgia and history at the Jordan Pond House, where guests have enjoyed afternoon tea for more than 200 years. With a knock-out view of Jordan Pond framed by the twin domes of the Bubble mountains, it's hard to beat the setting. If that's lost on your kids, Jordan Pond's celebrated popovers and strawberry jam and fabulous homemade ice cream are sure to please.

Planning Notes

  • Reservations are a must. Jordan Pond House is a major hub for hikers, bikers, and car-traveling sightseers, so expect plenty of patrons, especially during summer months for lunch and tea. Call ahead to limit your wait to 10 minutes or less.
  • Go for tea on the lawn. It's the best way to maximize the view and atmosphere.
  • Make it your hiking home base. Many trails and carriage paths meet at Jordan Pond House, making it easy to plan a hike or bike after your meal (find maps and water in the gift shop). Otherwise, let the kids burn off steam with a walk down to the pond before or after your meal.

Just the Facts

Hours: Daily, 11:30 a.m.-5:30 pm. for lunch and tea (inside or outside); 5:30 p.m.-8:30 p.m. for dinner (inside) Open mid-May through late October; closes earlier in October; no dinner in late October; call ahead to confirm.

What we loved:
The popovers & the view

What we didn't love:
What's not to like except the bill; they make you pay it.

It should be a law that you must have tea & popovers here while contemplating the gorgeous view. Even the kids enjoyed both. We go to Acadia almost every year & when we do we at least stop for tea & popovers.Read More

What we loved:
Outdoors, places to explore, kids can roam, yummy food for all ages

What we didn't love:
Long wait if you don't have reservations

What a fantastic place. We went to Bar Harbor on a family reunion and 20 of us trekked up to Jordan Pond for lunch. Actually, we didn't even mind waiting so long for our tables because it was such a beautiful place to kill time. The little ones went down to the pond with some adults and scurried after minnows and tadpoles. The adults lounged around and enjoyed the view.

I know it sounds weird that a restaurant might be wonderful for babies, but here's why I think so. It is outdoors and a bit noisy. No one minds when your baby cries or needs to breast feed. In fact, at one point, we put our daughter down on a blanket in the grass next to our table and she happily rolled around while we ate. It's not your average restaurant where you can put your baby on the floor!

I'd make this a "don't miss" stop if I ever get to return to Bar Harbor. Absolutely lovely.
