Thurston's Lobster Pound Description
Kids love to get close to the lobsters at Thurston's, even if they end up opting for the grilled cheese, hot dogs, or peanut butter and jelly. Those who love lobster can savor it at its freshest while enjoying spectacular views of Bass Harbor's working fleet. Covered docks provide shelter, and screens and mosquito netting take care of the bugs. All told it's well worth the trip to the quieter side of Mount Desert Island.
Planning Notes
- Go for the sunset if you can. It's a wonderful backdrop to a great meal.
- There's more nearby. Bass Harbor Head Lighthouse, Wonderland Trail, and the Ship Harbor Nature Trail are also on this side of the island, and easy to include in a trip to Thurston's.
Just the Facts

What we loved:
Great Prices per Pound
What we didn't love:
Nothing!
We actually have visited Bar Harbor many times. This is one place that we have visited every time. The first time we were there over 10 years ago (B.E.=before Evin), there wasn't really that many people there. It was an off the beaten path kind of place.
Now it is in tour books, guides and included on maps. It can get a little busy, but it worth the late. The meals are awesome. The blueberry cake is to die for! We aren't big drinkers, but the local seasonal and local beers are a pleasantry.
A++++ for us!Read More
