First, we were told we would be seated next, as we watched others being seated before my family was seated. ( 45 mins.) Next, the owner/bartender (she) insulted my husband, and said the "F" word in front of my children. This person has no business running a "family" restaurant.Read More

What we loved:
The huge menu, fresh local food

What we didn't love:
Small place, crowded, limited parking

We stumbled on the Tan Turtle Tavern on the second day of our Bar Harbor vacation.
The place has a bar, but we saw several families with teens inside, so we went in.
We were completely bowled over but the menu. I don't think I've ever seen such a choice.

The boys ordered shrimp, my husband ordered duck, and I ordered what I thought would be something small - a turkey, cranberry and Brie sandwich. The food arrived in good time and we dove right in. The servings are as large as the menu so we ended up asking for boxes to wrap leftovers. We were so stuffed we didn't order dessert, but we did see an enormous sundae on a server's tray.
