What we loved:
The beignets are delicious; the place is a landmark. Go!
What we didn't love:
Can be crowded and noisy, but it's fun
You've got to go to Cafe du Monde when you're in N.O. - it's a great place to grab a mid-morning snack, a late afternoon rest stop, or for an after-hours binge. Kids will love the casual, slightly messy atmosphere (seating is all outdoors, on a huge covered patio); street performers hang nearby too so there's plenty of action to keep everybody intrigued. Just keep an eye on them as N.O. can be hectic. ALL they have are beignets, so it's not a lunch place, just a brunch or snack destination.
