Bears' Coffee Description
Ask anyone where to go for breakfast in Hilo and they'll point you to Bears' Coffee, a bustling hole-in-the-wall with inexpensive, tasty food like fruit and yogurt, souffléd eggs, tuna stuffed Waimea tomatoes, and enormous waffles. There are teddy bears on one shelf, black and white photos of Hilo of old, and ceiling fans. Tucked away off the main strip, this joint is popular with locals and tourists alike.
Planning Notes
- Call ahead for lunch to go. If your family wants to bring your feast to the beach, call two hours in advance: 808-935-0708.
- Go early. Bears' Coffee opens early, which makes it a great place to bring a jetlagged toddler. Service is quick first thing in the morning but slows down when it gets crowded.
- Ask to play with a ted. If your child is old enough not to try to pop out the eyeballs, they'll let him play with the stuffed bears.
