Versailles Café Description
Restaurants are the main reason tourists wander into Miami's Little Havana community, known by its Hispanic name of Calle Ocho (Eighth Street). Versailles is so authentic you'll have to ask for the English menu if you don't read Spanish, and your waiter may struggle to communicate. But your kids will love the informal atmosphere and authentic fare like fried plantains and rice and beans, and you'll love the history permeating the restaurant and the neighborhood. If you want American coffee, ask for it by name; Cuban coffee is much stronger. After eating, walk around the street's cigar shops and parks (where you can still see older Cuban men playing chess).
Planning Notes
- Light meals are ok. You don't have to order main courses; their pastries and Cuban coffee (milk for the kids) are equally superb.
- Come during daylight. Aim to get here for breakfast or lunch so you can walk around safely and see the neighborhood in action.
