Oohhs and Aahhs Description

If your kids like mac and cheese, don't miss a stop at Oohhs and Aahhs. Known for serving the best mac and cheese in the city, and for its flavorful soul food, this restaurant offers delicious fried chicken, collard greens, yams and potato salad. My kids especially love the chicken wings and the corn bread. Though the home-style cooking is good, the restaurant is not particularly conducive to eating in, especially with really young kids. Just inside the entrance you can sit at a bar to eat and watch the chefs cooking, or you can take your food to the small dining room upstairs. But if the weather is nice, you're better off taking out. Be sure to check out our other U Street vacation ideas.

Kid Tips

Babies: The staircase to the upstairs is a bit narrow, so taking a stroller up might be difficult.

Planning Notes

  • Before you go. The service here is fast and friendly — perfect for a quick bite — and the prices are moderate. No credit cards are accepted and there's no wheelchair access to the upstairs dining room.
